Arbitration Experience
Experience as arbitrator:
- Sole arbitrator in an ICC arbitration between a Spanish and a French company concerning the allegedly unlawful termination of an agency contract. The proceedings are conducted in French, seated in Paris, and French law applies.
- Sole arbitrator in a case under the Chamber of Commerce of Milan’s Rules (CAM) between two Italian companies concerning the alleged termination of an engineering contract. The proceedings were conducted in Italian, seated in Milan, and Italian law applied.
- Sole arbitrator in a case under the Swiss Arbitration Centre’s Rules between an American and a Swiss company concerning the alleged termination of a technology equipment sales contract. The proceedings were conducted in Italian, seated in Lugano, and Swiss law and the CISG applied.
- Co-arbitrator in an ad hoc arbitration between an Italian and a French company concerning the alleged termination of an agency contract. The proceedings were conducted in French, seated in Paris, and French law applied.
Experience as counsel:
I have participated in more than 25 arbitrations across a wide range of industries, including construction, infrastructure and engineering (EPC contracts, lump-sum agreements, subcontractor disputes, PPP contracts), energy (oil and gas, production sharing agreements, gas price reviews), mining, corporate and post-M&A matters, as well as agency and distribution. These cases often involve complex legal, technical and quantum issues, and engage a variety of applicable laws, including those of France, Italy, Belgium, Switzerland, Algeria, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, the DRC, Singapore and Chile, as well as transnational law (UNIDROIT Principles, lex mercatoria) and public international law. I work on proceedings conducted in English, French or Italian.
In particular:
- I have advised and represented private corporations, States and state-entities in around 20 international commercial arbitrations administered by the major arbitration rules (ICC, LCIA, SIAC, CCJA, AFA, UNCITRAL), including emergency arbitration proceedings.
- I have been involved in 6 investor-State arbitrations, administered by the ICSID, PCA and UNCITRAL Rules.
I have also been involved in 3 post-arbitration proceedings, including an annulment proceeding concerning an ICC award before the International Commercial Chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal and two multi-jurisdictional proceedings concerning the enforcement of arbitral awards.
Finally, I have advised and represented multinational corporations and States on matters involving the application of international sanctions and other issues of public international law (e.g. jurisdictional and execution immunities, human rights and ESG, state contracts in the oil-and-gas and mining industries).
